IEs is a bit unbalanced and stange but lends itself to some fun and rewarding character builds.Ĭombat: Although NWN2 lets you do more things, IE combat feels consequential (violent) and powerful. ALTHOUGH 2ed rules (IE) are more unintuitive than 3.5ed (NWN2).Ĭharacter creation: NWN2s has many more options and all your stats actually matter for every class. IE leaves character appearance details to your imagination and the maps are still charming.Įngine: NWN2 engine is more comfortable and easily moddable.
Graphics: NWN2 maps are much better but it's characters look pretty bad. The NWN2 engine graphics need quite a bit of resources on max settings, was really bad back in the day. (see combat below about the dull feeling) NWN2 combat feels very weak in comparison, getting hit and hitting feels very inconsequentical and the animation again doesn't leave too much for the imagination and feels a bit too laid back. The combat system feels better - spells hitting you make you cringe, chunking enemies makes you smile, the pace will also keep you on your toes but not feel too fast. A lot of restartitis stems from the fun character creation in the IE. NWN2 character creation is really balanced and sort of. cut corners and do tricks to gain power and makes you feel powerful without being OP. The games character creation is fun - it's not really balanced but it sort of allows you to. To help with this I play by zooming out really far and zooming in only for taking closer looks. NWN2 character avatars look pretty damn bad and move unnaturally, your companions look like silent dolls. The character graphics leave more to the imagination.
You get much more conter: Siege of Dragonspear, BG2 and Throne of Bhaal. For trivial things EEKeeper balances this out. Also modding your character to be the way you want in non trivial ways is easier or atleast possible. If you want to make custom items this is much simpler in the NWN2 engine. (more complex too)īetter engine in general (inventory management, command chaining, keybindings, UI, pathing, 3.5ed vs. You don't neccesariliy have to be a thief to detect traps, use wands, scrolls and more customization options (via feats and skills) etc. The majors pros for both in my view (for a new player):Ī character creation system with more possibilities. It hasn't called me back like the Infinity Engine, though I fully intend to play it again! That said the NWN2 engine is IMHO much better in many departments and the remake is fantastically well done! Though I've only played it once. As you said, IE has a sort of special charm to it. But I've played the Infinity engine versions (originals and EE) something like 15+ times, NWN2 version 1,5 times.
